For thousands of Connecticut households, energy assistance is about more than paying a utility bill or filling a fuel tank—it’s about security, stability, and peace of mind. During Fiscal Year FY26 (July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026), our Emergency Energy Assistance Program helped families, older adults, veterans, and individuals with disabilities stay warm, keep their lights on, and avoid energy crises when they needed support most.
This year, GPCT provided assistance to 5,741 households, reaching 13,111 individuals. We distributed more than $2.72 million in emergency energy grants.
GPCT would like to extend a special thank you to our donors. Your generosity helped provide critical relief when Connecticut families needed it most—and every dollar truly made a difference.
The need for emergency energy assistance continues to outpace available resources. While funding limitations meant that we could not approve every eligible request, your support allowed us to extend assistance to more families facing the difficult choice between keeping the lights on, staying warm, and meeting other basic needs.

Next Emergency Energy Assistance Cycle Begins September 1
GPCT’s next Emergency Energy Assistance cycle will open from September 1-15, offering eligible Connecticut households assistance with electricity, gas, and fuel.

GPCT Submits 2nd Comments to PURA’s Annual Affordability Review Docket
GPCT continues our advocacy for vulnerable households in PURA’s Annual Affordability Review docket, where stakeholders evaluate programs and policies for electric and gas utility ratepayers in Connecticut. On July 22, we submitted written comments reviewing median income, energy burden, and payment plan data from 2025, to examine how affordable utility payment plans were. Our analysis shows that in almost all cases, ratepayers who qualify for financial hardship protections are enrolled in payment plans they can’t afford. GPCT recommends that PURA consider income and energy burden, as well as past due amount, when determining minimum payments required to protect utility service and bring down debt.
