EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS
Frequently Asked Questions
- All GPCT energy programs are accessible to income-eligible households making up to 75% SMI gross household income.
- For utility assistance, households must submit a past due balance and payment history showing (4) payments made in the preceding 12 months.
- For the highest likelihood to be approved, and to make full use of this once-per-12-months grant, GPCT strongly encourages households to apply for this emergency energy assistance when you are most in need.

GPCT has four Energy Assistance Application Cycles:
- September 1-10
- November 1-10
- January 1-10
- March 1-10
Applications with the most urgent needs (i.e. those in a shut-off situation, those out of fuel or who have exhausted CEAP benefits) will be reviewed first. Households that do not have an emergency energy need will be strongly encouraged to apply when they are more likely to make use of the full $500 award (likely in the next application cycle).
Each income-eligible household who receives a GPCT Energy Assistance Award will receive up to $500 toward a future fuel delivery or toward a past due utility bill.
GPCT works with (3) water companies: Aquarion, Connecticut Water, and MDC. For more information on the specific eligibility requirements and application process, please visit our Water Assistance Page.
