Funding awarded through the Energize ConnecticutSM Community Partnership Initiative

EAST HARTFORD, CT – Generation Power CT (GPCT), a statewide nonprofit organization that combines direct assistance, advocacy, and public engagement to create a more resilient energy future, is launching a new initiative in East Hartford. This will connect East Hartford residents to energy- and cost-saving opportunities provided by the Sponsors of Energize Connecticut (EnergizeCT.com). Working closely with the Town of East Hartford and contractors from CMC Energy Services and New England Smart Energy Group, GPCT will reach out to East Hartford residents through the Community Partnership Initiative, sharing information about energy savings and enrolling residents in the Home Energy SolutionsSM and Home Energy Solutions – Income Eligible programs. Eligible residents may receive a professional home energy assessment and service, with opportunities for insulation improvements, efficient appliance rebates, and other savings. Over the coming months, GPCT staff and partners will be available at community gathering spaces to share these energy-saving opportunities, including the libraries, the East Hartford Senior Center, food pantries, and schools.

“Everyone who pays an electric or natural gas bill in Connecticut, pays into energy efficiency programs – and we want to help as many residents as possible take advantage of these cost-saving opportunities,” said Perkin Simpson, PhD, Chief Executive Officer of GPCT. “Last year’s data from the Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) shows that for every dollar invested, $3.30 in benefits return to ratepayers. We look forward to expanding our partnership with the town of East Hartford and connecting residents to the energy savings and environmental benefits provided by the Sponsors of Energize CT.”

“East Hartford is proud to continue its long-standing partnership with Generation Power CT to support our residents in meeting their essential energy needs,” said East Hartford Mayor Connor S. Martin. “For decades, this collaboration has ensured that hundreds of East Hartford families receive the assistance they need to keep their homes safe and comfortable. In the last fiscal year alone, Generation Power CT approved over 200 applications, providing nearly $90,000 in energy bill assistance to local households. Through this renewed partnership, we look forward to expanding awareness of energy efficiency programs and helping residents reduce their energy burden for years to come.”

“The Energize Connecticut Community Partnership Initiative is a powerful way to connect with customers in historically underserved communities,” said Eversource Director of Energy Efficiency, Stephen Bruno in the Sponsors’ official press release. “This Initiative has proven how localized outreach drives greater participation in energy efficiency programs, helping residents and business owners to reduce their energy usage year-round.”

Marissa Westbrook, Manager of Conservation and Load Management at Avangrid Inc., subsidiaries Connecticut Natural Gas, Southern Connecticut Gas and United Illuminating, said in the same press release: “We have no doubt that each participant will go above and beyond with their energy efficiency program outreach and will see first-hand the many benefits of these important upgrades within their communities.”
